Instructions for Sewing Roman ShadesIn order to attach the lining to the fabric when sewing Roman shades use a fusible web that fuses the two together when you iron them. You can also use this to make a hem. Fold an amount of material under and press it and then fold again to make a double hem without ever having to sew anything. When you want to make the placement of the rings, you need to place a mark on each end and then divide the remaining material into equal increments. The usual placement is one inch from each side. For sewing Roman shades you should pin the twill tape to the ring marks starting at the bottom and working your way up the length of the fabric. Center the tape on all the ring marks and pin through both layers of material. If you have a talent for sewing on a machine, you can attach the rings in this manner, but most people who are not familiar with sewing techniques can do the attachment quite easily by hand. You can tack the rings in place with a double strand of thread and using only four or five stitches to hold them in place. Trim off any excess tapes when you have all the rings in place. You should use a sewing machine for the finishing touches you will need for the Roman shades. You can get help in sewing Roman shades to finish them off when you make them by hand. Using a zigzag stitch catches the edges of the tape in the stitching. The final step in sewing Roman shades is to attach the fabric to the head railing. You staple the fabric in place, stapling through the tapes as well as in between them. Then you can install the screws needed for the mounting board and put your Roman shades in place to your windows. You can decide whether you want the draw cord on the right or left and you have to string it through the rings, through the screw eyes and tie each cord at the bottom of the ring. Fabric glue will help to prevent the knots from becoming untied. Sewing Roman shades may appear to be a daunting task when you first get started, but as you experiment, it's like anything. Practice makes perfect and you will soon be browsing through bolts of fabric to find what you need for your next project. Content on this site is protected by US and international copyright.
